Rights in Emergencies

Rights in Emergencies

Our Rights in Emergencies Program employs a two-pronged approach in helping communities affected by crises and disasters rebuild their lives. Through the provision of legal services and the recognition that information is a necessary aid, we are helping communities access benefits and claims from the government and other legal assistance that they urgently need.

The program ensures the recovery and building resiliency of disaster-prone communities through education on civil registration, strengthening of local civil registration procedures and provision of gender-fair legal assistance in accessing benefits and legal claims, a basic right to social protection.

Since 2012, we have assisted agrarian reform beneficiaries in Compostela Valley who were gravely affected by Typhoon Pablo. In 2013 to 2015, we went to Leyte and Samar to assist the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda in hard-hit municipalities. Most recently, we have responded to the Marawi Crisis and the ongoing rehabilitation efforts.

Apart from conducting legal missions, reconstructing legal identity, and influencing policies, we have also established radio programs and online campaigns to ensure that the communities have access to accurate and reliable information. IDEALS also contributed to the mainstreaming of the efforts on the Management of the Dead and the Missing.
